I have been a land developer for over 20 years and rent a few properties. The Rent Estate Revolution is an amazing book and would be helpful for someone who is just getting started in the rental world and to the owner of 50 plus properties. Kevin shares everything, from his first property when he was a college freshman to his current role as CEO managing over 15,000+ properties. Great quick read and very inspiring.
I loved it. He breaks it down for the regular investor. Not a bunch of fluff either. Great information to help a non real estate person into investing. I am a seasoned investor and I still learned a lot from this book.

Kevin Ortner gives a step-by-step outline for a newbie looking to add rental properties to their investment portfolio. A great read!
I was disappointed in this book. On the plus side, it is well-written (entertaining "conversational" writing style, proper grammar, etc.), and espouses a refreshing "buy-and-hold" (long-term) approach to rental residential real estate. On the minus side, it did not provide the type of detailed information that I was seeking about how to actually *do* it - which is what I bought a book to learn about. For example, it does not provide actionable information about the detailed economics of residential rental real estate. Or how to position a property to rent well. Or how to find quality, cost-effective local contractors for maintenance and upkeep. Or... etc. etc. etc. This book is largely an advertisement for how great it is to buy and rent out houses, and to use a commercial management company (such as, ahem, the author's company) to find tenants, do the leasing, manage the properties, etc. The author does not tell you how to actually do the things you would need to do to find, evaluate, negotiate and operate residential real estate - he only tells you that buying rental properties is great, but operating rental properties a real headache, and that you'd be much happier using a service such as his, to run your real estate rentals. The problem is, I want to know how to do it myself. That is the ONLY way I can be confident that I am making good investments - and, knowing the ins-and-outs of how to do it well myself, is really the only way I can know that my contractors and agents (if I do hire a management company) are in fact doing THEIR jobs well, giving me the straight scoop, charging appropriate amounts for their services, etc. I had hoped that this book might contain actionable and detailed information about how to buy and operate residential real estate, but it just doesn't have the information that I was looking for.
